Semileptonic decays, magnetic moments and spin distributions of spin-1/2 baryons with sea contribution
Spin-1/2 baryons are considered as a composite system made out of a "core" of
three quarks surrounded by a "sea" (of gluons and -pairs) which is
specified by its total quantum numbers. Specifically, we assume this sea to be
a flavor octet with spin-0 or 1 but no color. We show our model can provide
very goods fits to magnetic moments and semileptonic decay data using
experimental errors. The predictions for spin distributions are in reasonable
agreement with experiment.Comment: To be published in Int. J. of Mod. Phys.
Incidencia de la violencia social, en Baja california: pobreza y desigualdad
ResumenEste artículo explora el aumento de la incidencia de violencia social en el estadofronterizo de Baja California, México en los últimos quince años. Se analizan losprincipales determinantes de los crímenes violentos en la región al confrontar dosperspectivas comúnmente propuestas por las ciencias sociales como catalizadoras dela violencia: la pobreza y la desigualdad. Mediante la utilización del modelo de Becker(1968) y, también, mediante la presentación de una caracterización jurídico-social dela región se propone un modelo empírico que incluye a la pobreza y a la desigualdad.Los resultados son sugerentes, pues, mientras que la pobreza y la desigualdad afectanla incidencia de crímenes violentos, la desigualdad tiene un mayor impacto en el casode Baja California.
Extended States in a One-dimensional Generalized Dimer Model
The transmission coefficient for a one dimensional system is given in terms
of Chebyshev polynomials using the tight-binding model. This result is applied
to a system composed of two impurities located between sites of a host
lattice. It is found that the system has extended states for several values of
the energy. Analytical expressions are given for the impurity site energy in
terms of the electron's energy. The number of resonant states grows like the
number of host sites between the impurities. This property makes the system
interesting since it is a simple task to design a configuration with resonant
energy very close to the Fermi level .Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Mirror matter admixtures and isospin breaking in the \Delta I=1/2 rule in \Omega^- two body non-leptonic decays
We discuss a description of \Omega^- two body non-leptonic decays based on
possible, albeit tiny, admixtures of mirror matter in ordinary hadrons. The
\Delta I=1/2 rule enhancement is obtained as a result of isospin symmetry and,
more importantly, the rather large observed deviations from this rule result
from small isospin breaking. This analysis lends support to the possibility
that the enhancement phenomenon observed in low energy weak interactions may be
systematically described by mirror matter admixtures in ordinary hadrons.Comment: Changed conten
A detailed determination of the a priori mixing angles in non-leptonic decays of hyperons
Non-leptonic Decays of Hyperons can provide a detailed determination of the a
priori mixing angles that appear in physical hadrons in the approach in which
non-perturbative flavor and parity violations are present in tiny pieces of the
hadron mass operator. The determination of such angles in these decays will
provide a bench mark to test their necessary universality-like property in
other types of decays. Our main result is that the magnitudes of the a priori
mixing angles can be determined quite accurately
Mobile Application for Noise Pollution Monitoring through Gamification Techniques
Full data coverage of urban environments is crucial to monitor the status of the area to detect, for instance, trends and detrimental environmental changes. Collecting observations related to environmental factors such as noise pollution in urban environments through classical approaches implies the deployment of Sensor Networks. The cost of deployment and maintenance of such infrastructure might be relatively high for local and regional governments. On the other hand recent mass-market mobile devices such as smartphones are full of sensors. For instance, it is possible to perform measurements of noise through its microphone. Therefore they become low-cost measuring devices that many citizens have in their pocket. In this paper we present an approach for gathering noise pollution data by using mobile applications. The applications are designed following gamification techniques to encourage users to participate using their personal smartphones. In this way the users are involved in taking and sharing noise pollution measurements in their cities that other stakeholders can use in their analysis and decision making processes
Silicon-Rich Oxide Obtained by Low-Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition to Develop Silicon Light Sources
Off stoichiometric silicon oxide, also known as silicon-rich oxide (SRO), is a light-emitting material that is compatible with silicon technology; therefore, it is a good candidate to be used as a light source in all-silicon optoelectronic circuits. The SRO obtained by low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) has shown the best luminescent properties compared to other techniques. In spite of LPCVD being a simple technique, it is not a simple task to obtain SRO with exact silicon excess in a reliable and repetitive way. In this work, the expertise obtained in our group to obtain SRO by LPCVD with precise variation is presented. Also, the characteristics of this SRO obtained in our group are revised and discussed. It is demonstrated that LPCVD is an excellent technique to obtain single layers and multilayers of nanometric single layers with good characteristics
